The winter weather is here! With every season change there are always different risks and things that pet owners need to be aware of, and keep their eye out for. ANTIFREEZE is a common household chemical that is around in the winter time.. This is a sweet tasting liquid that animals are very attracted to. Unfortunately, even a small amount of antifreeze can be fatal to a pet, and at the very least is extremely damaging to the kidneys. Please keep these containers far out of reach of pets, and be conscious of any leaking anti-freeze from your vehicles, or on the road/driveways from other vehicles.
THE COLD itself is another risk of winter time. Wind chill, especially mixed with any kind of moisture can be fatal to our furry friends, but especially short-haired, very young or senior pets. Please be mindful of the temperatures outside when letting your animals outside, and the length of time they are out, ESPECIALLY if you are not outside with them.
Our furry friends can also experience FROST BITE on their paw pads just like us, so be sure to remove any clumps of snow from their paws and consider using boot when going for walks. Boots also protect their feet from the SALT on the roads, which have varying degrees of toxicity. Road salt can cause chemical burns of the feet of our pets, as well as be toxic if they are licking their paws after being outside.
There are always other risks to winter as well, so if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to reach out to one of our team members.
Be safe out there and enjoy the snow!!
